First played for the Club in 1978 at the age of 13 and have been a member now for 39 years. In that time have held the roles of first and second team captain, match secretary, social and fund raising secretary, coach, umpire and Chairman, I think I might have even been secretary for a year!
Played until 2010 when major knee surgery brought my playing career to an end. -

I started playing hockey at the age of 15 in my native Cornwall. I joined East Devon Hockey Club when I moved to Exeter in 1984. I have captained all the teams from 2s to 5s and was Club Chairman for 5 years and Club President for 7. As a Life Member I want to help other young people get that lifetime opportunity of team sport that I have enjoyed and to encourage the future growth and development of a friendly accessible local hockey club.

I started playing hockey in 1986/87 at Castle School in Taunton, initially in goal. During my A Levels I played outfield and then at University at Marjons in Plymouth for their 1st team. After moving to London in 1993 to take up my first job I played for Addiscombe Hockey Club in Croydon until 2006 and then one year for Tonbridge Black Knights Vets team. I moved to Devon in 2007 and due to a back injury and having young children my hockey career was put on hold. After encouragement from my partner to get playing again I joined East Devon Hockey Club in 2017 and have thoroughly enjoyed it - the 10 year break may have helped as my back is fine now! In September 2019 I took on the captaincy of the 5th team and it has been a real pleasure to lead the team over the year. I highly recommend joining East Devon HC, particularly if you are a returner to hockey like I was.
