Match Report | East Devon 1's started their season off with a tough home game against Torbay, with a few changes to the East Devon squad it was a very young team. East Devon started well with some very good short passing and it didnt take long before Steve Mearing opened the scoring with his 1st goal for East Devon on his debut. Torbay then started pressing East Devon and winning the ball back and attacking quickly and in numbers, creating 2 or 3 decent chances that were well saved by man of the match Brandon Milford. At half time East Devon felt like they needed to change their shape and have an extra player in midfield to match up to the Torbay formation. This change proved to be a good move with East Devon scoring a 2nd goal half way through the 2nd half again, scored by Steve Mearing with a brilliant solo goal finished with a low shot through the keepers legs. As Torbay were pushing to try to get back into the game this meant there were gaps in behind their midfield/defence which meant that when Dave Essex found himself free on the edge of the D he had a shooting opportunity which he shot low and past the keeper to make it a convincing scoreline of 3-0. If it wasn't for East Devons goalkeeper who was in top form things may have been different but a very solid display from a young East Devon team which shows lots of promise and potential. |
